Nokia N96 ? Successor of a Successful Phone

The Nokia N96 as everyone knows is the successor of the most successful Nokia mobile phones ever the N95. Being a descendent of a great phone there was a large amount of expectation from the Nokia N96. Unfortunately the Nokia N96 couldn’t keep up the glory of its predecessor.

The time when Nokia Mobile Phones released Nokia N95, it was the giant in the market, and there wasn’t any potential threat to Nokia N95 in design, features or performance but now the things are totally different. The N96 uses Dual ARM 9 264 MHZ CPU which is a slower than that of N95’s CPU. There doesn’t seem to be any valid reason for this downgrade, though on second thoughts it looks like it was done to improve battery life but the battery life is worse than that of N95. No to worry too much the mediocre battery and the CPU don’t affect the performance of the phone. The user interface is very smooth, quick and just maybe some very demanding application or game can show the difference between the performance of the two mobile phones.

The design of N96 has been inherited from the Nokia N81 and is very attractive; the build quality however is not up to the standard of a high end mobile phone. The cheaper plastic employed in Nokia N96 is susceptible to scratches.

The form factor of N96 is dual slide i.e. you can move the top slider either way up and down; pushing the panel upwards will reveal the numeric keypad and pushing it down will reveal the 4 dedicated keys used for music and games.

As far as memory is concerned the Nokia N96 is excellent. It has a large internal memory of 16GB and provides room for further expansion using a micro SD memory card. In short, you can extend the memory of N96 to 32GB. The 2.8 inches screen of N96 is marvellous; It is brilliant even under direct sunlight, no complaints from display section too.

The inbuilt 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens camera complemented by powerful dual LED flash captures superb pictures producing a far better quality than the pictures taken by other phones boasting a 5 mega pixel camera. The pictures are excellent in all lighting conditions, this camera can capture even moving objects with great precession. However, the capture button can be difficult to press but it isn’t a major problem.

The Nokia N96 Mobile comes with a good DVB – H tuner, enabling it to receive digital TV broadcasts. Moving on to one of the main entertainment functions of the Nokia N96 – the mp3 play, which does not disappoint with excellent all around sound quality. The loud speakers are placed on the right side, top and bottom of the phone. In landscape mode you can use the kickstand to place the phone on the desk at the best angle for watching TV / video. The loudspeakers will now be on the top left and right of the phone giving a feel of mini television, looks very attractive.

The N96 wasn’t really intended to take the market by storm and turn the world around. Maybe it was meant to quietly update the top multimedia gadget of the house. Almost every phone manufacturer has a good range of mobiles that can challenge Nokia N96 and most of them have Touchscreen, mp3 players and video playback functions. Nokia is not yet concentrating on Touchscreen which is the latest trend in mobile world. Moreover Nokia N96 has a heavy price tag compared to other mobiles with similar functionalities however the Nokia N96 has a great software package that comes in an utterly user-unfriendly shell.

Blackberry Pearl

There are so many variants of pearls originating from the world’s

countless oceans and lakes. They differ in luster and colors. It depends on

the type of oysters they grew in. Pearls can also take on a wide

variety of appearance, thus no two pearls are exactly the same.

Pearls are hard, rounded objects produced by mollusks and oysters. Over

time, pearls have been turned into jewelries and also crushed and

formed into cosmetics. Pearls are also valuable gemstones.

Formed inside shells of bivalve mollusks, the layer that is deposited

inside forms layers known as nacre. Now when these small particles form

altogether, a pearl is produced.

Pearls are known for their luster. The luster of the pearl depends on

the reflection and refraction of light. The finer the proportion of the

layers is, then the thinner and more numerous the light is.

Blackberry pearls are grown from black lipped oysters. They still come

in many colors, despite what its name denotes. Their colors vary from

specks of silver to a monochromatic black.

An example of a popular blackberry pearl is the ‘peacock green’ pearl

that has a magnificent luster and green tinge added to its black

coloring.

Blackberry pearls are attractive because of its radiance. It is

extremely valuable because of its rarity.

Most blackberry pearls come from the blue lagoons of Polyneisa. Now,

blackberry pearls are hundred times more rare than white pearls, thus

making blackberry pearls really valuable.

Aside from the color green mentioned earlier, blackberry pearls also

come in a variety of colors like emerald green, sea green, peach-copper,

pink, pale silver blue, melon, bordeaux, indigo, cranberry and

aubergine. Usually ranging from dark green to deep black, blackberry pears are

iridescent and constantly shimmering. They are very exotic.

Thus jewelry necklaces, earrings, bracelets made from blackberry

pears are indeed a fine gem. They represent love and romance.

How do you then determine the value of a blackberry pearl? There are so

many factors:

1. Luster

When you’re selecting a blackberry pearl, always check the luster. The

luster refers to the reflective surface giving off a shiny mirror-like

quality. The better the luster, the higher the quality of the

blackberry pearl. The luster denotes the thick layering of the nacre or the

pearl material. If there is a fine luster, it means that the pearl has been

inside the oyster for a long period of time. The thicker the nacre, the

more valuable the blackberry pearl.

2. Size

In evaluating black pearls, size is a very important criteria. The

Black Lipped Oysters, where a majority of Blackberry pearls are obtained,

are one of the largest in the world, so it is expected that the pearls

are of more-than-average size. The usual size is 8-10.5 mm or there are

some cases wherein it is 11-14 mm. The size of the pearl is determined

by the size of the nacreous layer that surrounded it when it was still

in the oyster. The largest Blackberry Pearl seen so far was 23mm

that’s the size of a small bird egg! Imagine how precious that pearl is!

3. Shape

Blackberry pearls come in a variety of natural shapes. It ranges from

mushroom, acorn, barrel, pear-shaped, tear-drop, button and baroque

shapes. All these shapes are marketable because they accommodate the demand

of the public. But the rounder the pearls are, the more valuable. That

is because it is so hard for oysters to create the perfect spherical

shape.

4. Orient

The orient is the heart and soul of the pearl. The orient is the

penetrating light on the pearl’s surface that gives depth of color and light.

This can be observed by looking through the lustrous surface and the

many layers of the nacre or pearl material. The layer reflects the light,

thus creating an illuminating glow in the pearl. The best way to see

the orient is to hold the pearl in front of a neutral background. Let the

light shine into the pearl. The eye will be able to see through the

surface color.

5. Color

Blackberry Pearls often come in rainbow-like or beautiful natural

color. Each color is special. In selecting color, one must determine which

looks best on the wearer. The color comes more alive when it suits the

skin tone and complexion.

6. Surface

The outer surface of the pearl is checked for smoothness and

perfection. The less visible scratch, the better. Each pearl has tiny “surface

marks” adding character to the pearl. These marks are like that of

birthmarks to human beings. However, the less surface mark, the better.

It is because of the blackberry pearl’s value that a mobile phone was

named right after it.

Who Needs an Apple Iphone?

Although the launch of the Apple iPhone means that many who see the next generation smartphone is sure to want one, we have identified a few key consumers who might find the iPhone an indispensable tool.

The Students:

Given Apple’s close link to the academic community, it’s inevitable that there will be some alliances forged between the two realms of Apple’s cutting edge design and technology and the needs of academia.

One of Steve Jobs’ previous start-ups, NeXT, focused on higher education and business markets, while its Mac line of desktops are used in biotechnology research and analytical computations.

Students using the iPhone will find its features like the ability to playback MP3 tracks useful. Not so much for catching the latest pop songs, but rather to catch education-related podcasts.

The iPhone’s ability to stream video means that e-learning or distance learning can take place, as long as the academic institution has the infrastructure in place.

Having a 2-megapixel digital camera built into the iPhone means that photos can be taken with ease, whether it’s for assignments or for personal recreation.

Road Warriors:

Business people on the move will find the iPhone to be useful, especially with the availability of full featured Internet access, rather than the abbreviated web surfing currently available on many smartphones.

This means that not only will you be able to check for information on the Internet, it also means that secure business transactions can take place easily.

The availability of Internet access over Wi-Fi networks mean that available Web 2.0 services will allow mobile office workers to access their data on the move.

Freed from being deskbound, the Apple iPhone is currently enabled to access Google’s Maps application. Over time, you can expect Apple’s strategic partners to develop more business applications.

Business Owners:

The workhorse nature of the iPhone together with its close integration to Apple’s Safari Internet browser, mean that business applications can be used seamlessly.

We can make an educated guess that the separation between the computer and your mobile iPhone device will be erased over time.

Perhaps we might even predict that the iPhone will gradually take over the functions of your laptop or notebook computer over time.

With Apple’s support for its developer network, this means that a new generation of business applications can be expected on the horizon.

Apple’s broad appeal is not just limited to the iPhone however, it’s previous products such as the Mac, its followup brethren the iMac and the iPod digital music player have received a warm reception from its users.
